Umm-Al-Hasharah, The Insect Horror (Guardians of Nature #7)

Umm-Al-Hasharah was the Seventh Guardian of Nature to arise in the world. Queen of all Insects and Land Arthropods, and Empress of the Locusts, she ravaged Saudi Arabia and the Middle East with her endless broods of young, and her terrible swarms that blackened the sky and blotted out the Sun, as if due to a sandstorm (for her legions far outnumbered all the world's grains of sand). So mighty was Al-Hasharah, that she destroyed the Saudi oil fields, single-handedly plunged the global economy into an apocalypse from which it would never recover, and trigged a nigh worldwide famine brought about by the economic crash, combined with her locusts devouring crops wherever they were found. The Middle East, now facing near-term societal collapse, food riots, and financial downturn, failed to muster the military strength to defeat Al-Hasharah, even when all the countries of the region banded together for the first time in history and set aside their religious, political, and societal differences to defeat a common foe. Al-Hasharah's larval stage stopped its attack in Iraq and formed a cocoon around itself deep underground, only to later emerge in its Imago form (a giant insect with aspects of a praying mantis, scorpion, rhinoceros beetle, and butterfly) and go on a rampage straight towards Israel.
