And So Begins World War III

This art piece is from a college internship I did with thriller author Robert Blake Whitehill (who wrote the Ben Blackshaw book series). It depicts one of the last scenes of his first novel showing two of his villains-- Chalk and Tahereh-- starting at a nuclear explosion set off by a device on an island in the Chesapeake Bay. The protagonist, Ben Blackshaw, managed to prevent the device from exploding at its intended target, which would have been Washington DC, and would have triggered WWIII. Chalk believes WWIII is imminent upon seeing the explosion, thus he says "And so begins WWIII", which is where the title of my piece comes from.

Two characters from Robert Blake Whitehill's novel Deadrise-- Chalk and Tahereh-- stare from their rowboat at a nuclear explosion that went off on an island in the Chesapeake Bay.
