Rhizoth Awakens in Oregon's Malheur National Forest (Guardians of Nature #5)

This artwork depicts Rhizoth, the Guardian of Fungi, walking through Oregon's Malheur National Forest, from where it emerged near the location of the world's largest fungal superorganism. The lumbering beast spread spores wherever it tread, causing mushrooms of all kinds to grow everywhere and decompose humans or artificial structures in its path, or parasitically take over the minds of animals and people. Naturally, the emergence of the fungal terror caused many states in the US West Coast and lower Canada to declare a state of emergency, and the National Guard/the US military/Canadian military were called to defend the rest of the continental US from the fungal hordes devouring everything, or the zombified people driven mad by the influence of parasitic or psychedelic fungi. At one point the President authorized the use of a nuclear weapon to destroy Rhizoth when the monster reached Denver, Colorado. However, the nuke not only failed to destroy Rhizoth, but it made Rhizoth stronger. It absorbed the localized radiation from the nuclear blast and mutated itself to become more resilient. It was at this point that the American people and the American government knew they were utterly doomed.
